Care Instructions

Every Khayta piece is hand-embroidered with intention and care. To help your item stay beautiful for years, please follow the care guidelines below.

Because our embroidery appears on a variety of materials, these instructions cover the most common bases we use.

General Care for All Embroidered Items

  • Avoid pulling or tugging on the embroidery threads.

  • Keep away from sharp objects that may catch on the stitches.

  • Store pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to protect colours.

  • If you notice a loose thread, do not pull it. Gently trim it with small scissors.

Fabric Items (pouches, tote bags, soft sleeves, bookmarks, etc.)

Light Cleaning:

  • Gently wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

  • For dust or lint, use a soft brush or lint roller—never scrub the stitches.

Spot Cleaning:

  • Treat only the stained area.

  • Use mild, diluted detergent and dab gently.

  • Avoid soaking the entire item unless necessary.

Deep Cleaning (when required):

  • Handwash in lukewarm water with a soft detergent.

  • Do not twist or wring the embroidered section.

  • Press gently to remove excess water and let air dry flat.

  • If ironing is needed, place a cloth over the embroidery and use low heat.

Leather & Faux Leather Items (keychains, cardholders, tech sleeves, luggage tags)

Embroidery on leather requires a gentler approach.

  • Do not submerge leather or faux leather in water.

  • Wipe with a slightly damp cloth for surface cleaning.

  • For deeper cleaning, use a leather-safe cleaner around the embroidery.

  • Keep away from oils, perfumes, and alcohol-based products that may stain or warp the leather.

  • Allow leather pieces to air dry naturally—never use a hairdryer or heater.

  • Store away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or cracking.

Canvas Items (tote bags, cases, pouches)

  • Spot clean with mild detergent and lukewarm water.

  • For overall cleaning:

    • Handwash gently, avoiding scrubbing on embroidered areas.

    • Do not use bleach.

    • Allow to air dry fully before use.

  • Iron on the reverse side or with a protective cloth.

Tech Accessories (laptop sleeves, tablet covers)

Because these may contain structured padding:

  • Do not machine wash.

  • Wipe exterior surfaces gently with a damp cloth.

  • Spot clean embroidered areas only.

  • Let air dry completely before placing electronics inside.

  • Keep away from excessive heat or moisture.

Embroidered Stickers / Peel-and-Stick Pieces

  • These are not washable.

  • Avoid placing them on surfaces exposed to constant friction or moisture (e.g., water bottles, outdoor suitcases).

  • To clean, lightly brush away dust, do not use water or cleaning products.

  • Ensure the surface you stick them onto is clean and dry.
